bizerte

Bizerte or Banzart in native language is the oldest city in Tunisia, the northernmost city in Africa. Banzart lies along the Mediterranean coast. It is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations. Offering lagoons, extravagant wildlife, beaches and healing sunshine, Banzart is exotic and lush offering diversified activities.

The Bizerte Port of Commerce is one of the most important ports of Tunisia. It makes of Banzart a meeting point between Africa and Europe on the one hand, and between East and West, of the other hand. The strategic maritime position and the developed land routes enable the port offers manufacturers, investors and transport professionals an indispensable business tool to conquer the Mediterranean market.

Banzart City is also an important economic center based primarily on industry, services and trade. Beside a heavy industry based on oil refining, steel and Cements production the region of Bizerte is home for a well-developed and diversified network of manufacturing industries with a significant proportion oriented to export.

However, Bizerte or Banzart city needs an urban development vision to integrate the information and communications technology to manage the city assets presents above. It needs an urban renewal and retrofitting program to make it citizen friendly and sustainable. Connecting the city of Bizerte in the IEEE Smart City initiative will help in enhancing quality, performance and interactivity of urban services, reducing costs and resource consumption and improving quality of life.

In this program, what we called “Smart Banzart”, we are focusing on the following aspects:

  • Ubiquity through the implementation of pervasive networks throughout the city
  • Smart mobility, while insuring the availability of ICT infrastructure and intelligent transportation systems
  • Smart environment, that aims to reduce pollution, enhance the waste management, to better manage sustainable resources and renewable energy
  • Smart Living to improve the health conditions, the housing quality and to make of Banzart an attractive touristic destination.
